The NSW Government has established a Mental Health Line for people with mental health problems, their families and carers to access help whenever needed. This is a 24 hour telephone support service for anyone in NSW.
The service will provide a telephone triage assessment and referral service staffed by mental health clinicians. The line will also be used to provide advice about clinical symptoms, the urgency of the needs for care and local treatment options for service providers such as GP’s, police and ambulance officers.
In regards to the Hunter New England Area Health Service the actual phone service is referred to as the ‘Mental Health Contact Centre’ and is based at the James Fletcher Hospital.
