Cultivating Compassion

Creating compassion for the self involves changing the way you perceive yourself. Be mindful of your internal sense of self, and how you maintain your ability to be present for you and others. Practice helpful thinking, positive self-talk and establish a rewarding self-care routine.

Participate in your community, find a way to become part of a large group of people passionate about something that you value. Tend to a community garden, volunteer at your local animal shelter or find ways for your job to have a community impact i.e. skill building workshops.

Think bigger picture, being compassionate to the earth and environment we live in. Take steps to enjoy the beauty of nature and maintain this by engaging in sustainable choices,. Try swapping for reusable cups and wraps, participating in a beach clean up or conserving water usage.

Check in with your circle. Often we don’t have to look to far to find people who could benefit from a compassionate word or action, these people want to feel seen and connected just as much as you do. Offer words of encouragement, assistance with practical tasks or a welcome distraction from their busy week.

It’s human nature to want to be part of a group and feel connected to others. Compassion refers to the things we do to reduce suffering and encourage wellbeing. We can actively demonstrate compassion by both being kind to ourselves and engaging in tasks that benefit others.

Practicing compassion across all areas of your life can help maintain a sense of fulfillment, encourage others towards positive action and create a sense of happy connectedness.
