How can Psychological Support Assist with Recovery after a workplace injury?

Workplace injuries can occur at anytime and can be both physical and psychological. Sometimes it is difficult to understand the WorkCover system and how to gain help during these times. It is important to work closely with your General Practitioner during your WorkCover claim so that you get the support you need and access to the therapy and treatment approved by your insurance agency.

If you have a psychological injury or your GP feels that you would benefit from seeing a psychologist then you would need to arrange the following:

  1. Talk to your GP about a referral to a psychologist of your choice.

  2. Your GP then adds psychology treatment onto your certificate of capacity so that your claim manager and insurance company understands that this therapy would benefit your return to work.

  3. You then need to liaise with your claim manager to arrange approval for your treatment with the psychologist.

  4. Once the approval is arrange you can then arrange a time and proceed with booking your psychological appointments.

Psychological support is often approved in blocks of 8 treatments and after each block of treatment a report is provided to the insurance company to advise if further treatment is required. You may be asked to complete questionnaires by your psychologist to confirm how you are feeling as you go through your treatment so that the psychologist can include these details in the report the insurance agency.

In order to be able to treat clients under WorkCover claims Psychologists must be accredited by SIRA State Insurance Regulatory Authority who regulates all Workers Compensation claims in NSW.

The LifeWise Centre has three SIRA accredited Psychologists on staff at this time. If you would like to see a Psychologist under your WorkCover claim please arrange your approval with the insurance agency and along with your GP referral and send through to admin@lifewise.com.au after completing the enquiry for under the contact tab at the top of our webpage. Upon receipt of your enquiry our Practice Manager will review our availability and advise if we are able to offer appointments to you at that time.
